Prologue; The Lion and I (content revised)

"Yes... Boss."

I swallow hard. His gaze makes the hairs on my body stand on end. I'm ready to be devoured by the lion before me.

"The Black Rose of Blight..."

"Why don't you go around spreading rumors around the neighborhood that I'm a secret police officer? You want to set a new record of being fired from Alpha Team within three days of joining, right?"

"It's a good thing he's stupid. If he were smart, he would have immediately told his idiot to find out what Blight is. Well, if he were smart, he wouldn't have gotten caught by that rookie."

I was just happy that my first mission with Alpha Team was a success, so I whispered in his ear like a crime-movie heroine, "You underestimated the police. I'm Blight's Black Rose." It was a risky comment, but I wondered if it was worth the trouble.

I should've pulled out the radio then. I bite my lip. Who knew everyone on Alpha Team was listening? Even the boss. Next time, I'll definitely pull out the radio before I say that cool line. I promise.

"Still, the rose is pretty."

He chuckles and leaves the room. The lion's final blow leaves me unconscious and staggering.

So, am I not pretty? Am I not pretty at all? Roses are no good after all. I pout.

"You're amazing too. It was only yesterday that you were excited to finally join Alpha Team. Have you already been defeated by the boss?"

"Anyway, that boss, that guy with his handsome face, stole my soul, and now he's scolding me... Wow. If I get scolded twice, I think my life will be shortened."

Jeong Su-jeong chuckles at my words. "That's not funny," I mutter. At times like this, I can't understand how Jeong Su-jeong can be treated so coldly in court. She's so happy about such trivial things.

I hung up on Jeong Su-jeong and headed straight to bed. Back in the Beta Team, I'd only known her face through rumors. Since joining the Alpha Team, she's become a completely ordinary face I see every day (but possesses a handsomeness that defies everyday life).

As rumored, he was cool-headed, possessed exceptional judgment, and possessed a charisma reminiscent of a lion. He was more than qualified to be the leader of Blight, South Korea's secret police organization.
