15. A silent morning greeting

The next morning.

Sunlight filtering through the curtains warmed the room.

The light streaming in through the window dyed the edge of the blanket a faint golden hue, and Myeongho quietly opened his eyes on it.

He lay there for a moment, covering his forehead with one arm, catching his breath, and then slowly sat up.

His hair was disheveled, and one shoulder of his shirt hung loosely.

디에잇(명호)
‘… I overslept. I have plans today…’

He muttered with a sobbing voice, turned off the alarm, and ran a hand through his hair.

And then, as if on a familiar path, I walked out into the living room without thinking.

It was quiet. It was an oddly quiet morning.

But at the center of that silence—on the table—something lay warm.

Two slices of golden toasted bread on a white plate.

Strawberry jam neatly placed next to the glossy butter.

A soft-boiled egg had a slightly runny yellow yolk, and next to it were two strips of crispy bacon.

The scent was not irritating, but rather subtly savory.

And next to the plate, a small post-it note was fluttering lightly in the breeze.

정세연
"Thank you so much for your help. This is toast, and I made it simply. I hope you enjoyed it :)"

Myeongho stopped walking quietly.

An awkward feeling of being caught and a strange, deep-seated pang of sadness came over me at the same time.

I read and reread the note. Short text, simple words.

But inside, sincerity permeated more than any flowery expression.

He reached out silently and gently pressed the edge of the bread.

It wasn't warm, but the warmth still lingered on the table.

디에잇(명호)
‘… You made this all morning…?’

A very subtle curve was drawn at the corner of his eye.

The corners of my mouth rose without hesitation, and somewhere on my chest shook quietly.

디에잇(명호)
‘…He’s a warm person…’

He took a deep breath, carefully removed the post-it note, and gently stuck it to the wall in the corner of the desk.

And then he sat down at the table and began to eat quietly.

Cut the egg in half, fold the bread into small pieces and put them in your mouth.

Finally, a piece of crispy bacon. No words were spoken, but a smile remained on his lips.

디에잇(명호)
"It's delicious."

After finishing his meal, Myeongho quietly put away his dishes and began preparing for the day in silence.

I grabbed my car keys, phone, and schedule one by one, and was about to take out my shoes and put them on.

He paused for a moment in front of the door.

Sunlight was gently streaming through the glass of the front door.

디에잇(명호)
‘Today feels like it's going to be a long day. Strangely... I feel like...I'm going to remember something.’

He turned the doorknob quietly.

Even the sound of the door opening and closing was quiet and calm.

And Myeongho walked out into the sunlight.
