“… Professor, I’m here.”

"hey."

“Yes, professor.”

“Do you know what you did wrong?”

“… Yes, I know.”

“What is it?”

“I performed a chest tube insertion without the professor’s supervision, and on an emergency patient. It is a surgical procedure that first-year residents are supposed to be able to perform under supervision.”

“A guy who knows that does a chest tube insertion by himself? Are you crazy?”

“… but it was a real emergency, and I was the only one who could do it.”

“How urgent was it? Did you have to go into surgery right away and die on the spot if you didn’t get it inserted?”

“Yes, it was a really urgent patient.”

“Huh… It’s not like there weren’t any professors, but it doesn’t make sense that only first-year residents were there.”

“Of course there were professors, but they were all taking care of critically ill patients.”

“It was really critical, that’s all I have to say. Please check the medical chart to see how critical it is.”

“The procedure was completed successfully without any mistakes. I can guarantee your skills.”

“… How presumptuous, you’re only a first-year resident.”

“I’m only a first-year resident, and I’m the only one here.”

“I’m going to go now, I have to see my patients.”

“… Huh, that thing is back.”

So I went around the hospital, treating patients, dressing them, reading electrocardiograms, etc. I did my best in everything I could do, and with a little time left, I went to the hospital’s lounge to try to get some sleep. The one who stopped me from getting some rest after a long time was the professor.

“A first-year resident sleeps like a professor?”

“… Ah, why is the professor here…”

“I came looking for you, wake up.”

“Why me? I have nothing to do…”

“Why wouldn’t there be anything for a first-year resident to do? Wouldn’t it be great if there were so much to do?”

“Threatocentesis, you do it.”

* Thoracentesis: A procedure to remove fluid accumulated in the thoracic cavity using a syringe.

“Do you have any patients who need thoracentesis?”

“Oh, I’ll be watching you, so do it properly.”

I followed Professor Kim Seok-jin to the patient who needed thoracentesis, and after checking the patient's condition, I proceeded with the procedure. I felt the professor's cold gaze on me, but I focused, and although it was my first time doing the procedure, I handled it skillfully.

“… You’re really good at it, you didn’t come under me for nothing.”

“I want to learn a lot from that professor. I think the residency period is the most important period.”

“Well… Then try harder and don’t even think about sleeping.”

"all right!"

In that way, I followed Professor Kim Seok-jin around a lot and learned and practiced the treatments and medical information that I learned in my second year, and I grew even faster. As I couldn't sleep well and eat well, my physical condition got worse, but my mood got better as the physical condition of my patients got better day by day.

Thanks to this, I became close with Professor Kim Seok-jin, and I gained a lot of knowledge, and I received a lot of praise from other professors and nurses. Since I worked hard to get here, I set my goal to work hard and become a better professor than Professor Kim Seok-jin.

“Professor, I will become a better fellow than you later!”

“… Well, I guess I’ll become a renowned fellow.”

“But you still have a long way to go to catch up with me, do you know that?”

“Yeah, but I’ll do better later.”

"Yeah, are you looking forward to me?"

"Yeah, I'm looking forward to it!"
