Their relationship began about ten years ago, when they were both high school students. At the tender age of nineteen, Kim Yeo-ju was a student who devoted herself to her studies, always wearing her hair tied back in a ponytail. Jeon Jung-kook was a student who, like any school, rarely showed up and, when he did, simply slept around, a bit of a slacker.

“Lady, teach me this.”

“Oh, give it to me.”

Kim Yeo-ju at nineteen was strangely different from Kim Yeo-ju at twenty-nine. She was kind then and still is, but in high school, she seemed a bit prickly, a bit cold. Kim Yeo-ju was friendly with everyone in her class, but she didn't have a single true friend. Back then, she considered friends a waste of time.

“Next class is... Korean...?”

Kim Yeo-ju, who was always diligent when it came to studying, got confused and left her textbook at home for the first time. That day would be the first real meeting between Kim Yeo-ju and Jeon Jung-kook. Realizing she didn't have a book for the next class, Kim Yeo-ju anxiously stamped her feet, wondering if there was anyone she could borrow. But, as I said before, where could Kim Yeo-ju have friends? Thinking she'd failed, Kim Yeo-ju rolled her eyes and glanced around the classroom.

“… Yes. For the textbooks!”

As Kim Yeo-ju scanned the classroom, she saw none other than Jeon Jung-guk, who was sleeping face down in the back row. Although they were in the same class, he was always asleep and never spoke to her. Of course, Kim Yeo-ju also thought that entangling him would be a bad idea. Kim Yeo-ju took a deep breath, exhaled, and approached Jeon Jung-guk, tapping his desk with her hand.

Knocking alone wasn't enough to wake up the soundly sleeping Jeon Jungkook, and with little time left to rest, Kim Yeo-ju, who was growing impatient, closed her eyes tightly and placed a hand on Jeon Jungkook's shoulder, shaking it a couple of times. There...! Jeon Jungkook, who frowned at Kim Yeo-ju's touch and sat up, must have wondered who the shameless person who woke him up was.

“Fuck… I was sleeping soundly for a while, why are you waking me up and making a fuss?”

“Sorry to wake you up. Can I borrow your textbook just this once?”

Kim Yeo-ju didn't particularly like Jeon Jung-kook's sudden swearing at her, even though they'd never spoken before and weren't even close. But she forced a smile for the sake of the textbook. Despite all that, the answer she got back was, "You don't like it?" Kim Yeo-ju wasn't easily persuaded by Jeon Jung-kook's words.

“You don’t need a textbook since you’ll be sleeping in class anyway.”

Jeon Jungkook was dumbfounded by Kim Yeoju's brashness. No one at this school spoke to him first, not even the teachers. And Kim Yeoju was the first person to make such a bold request. Jeon Jungkook chuckled, then stood up, leaned close to Kim Yeoju's ear, and whispered.

“If I lend you something, what will you do for me?”

Kim Yeo-ju squeezed her eyes shut at the sound of her breathing tickling her ears, then opened them again. She was pondering Jeon Jung-kook's question, "What will you do for me?" Jeon Jung-kook tilted his head to the side, looking at her, curious about what would come out of her mouth. Just then, the bell rang, signaling the start of class.

“I’ll give you whatever you want. So, hurry up and give me the textbook.”

Kim Yeo-ju, her eyes wide as she punched the paper, had no choice but to give Jeon Jung-kook whatever he wanted, and took his Korean textbook before scurrying back to her own seat. After Kim Yeo-ju returned to her seat, Jeon Jung-kook, who had plopped down in his own, began to keep glancing at her.

What on earth could possibly make her act so brazenly in front of him? The other kids were too scared to say a word to him, but Kim Yeo-ju answered every question and took his book, so it was understandable that he was curious. Jeon Jung-kook stared at Kim Yeo-ju for an entire period, and that Korean class was the only time Jeon Jung-kook didn't sleep at school.

After Korean class, Kim Yeo-ju looked at her textbook, took notes, and organized them. She then stood up, grabbed her textbook, and headed toward Jeon Jung-kook. Jeon Jung-kook knew Kim Yeo-ju was coming toward him, but he pretended not to notice, turning his gaze to the window. Kim Yeo-ju then placed the borrowed textbook on Jeon Jung-kook's desk.

“Thank you for borrowing it.”

Jeon Jungkook looked at Kim Yeo-ju as if she found him strange. From his perspective, Kim Yeo-ju was something he simply couldn't understand. Even when borrowing something, she didn't do it to his disadvantage, but when returning it, she didn't show any signs of displeasure and instead said thank you? When Kim Yeo-ju saw Jeon Jungkook staring at her, she shrugged, placed the blunt object she was holding on his desk, and quickly returned to her seat.

Even after Kim Yeo-ju left, Jeon Jung-kook, who had been looking at her, quickly looked away and checked what she had left on his desk. Jeon Jung-kook, who saw a small chocolate bar sitting at the end of his desk, smirked as if he found it amusing.

“It’s pretty cute.”

“It’s so sweet.”

The chocolate Kim Yeo-joo gave to Jeon Jung-kook, who usually didn't like sweets, was incredibly sweet. The first time he put it in his mouth, the sweetness spread across his face, causing him to furrow his brow. But he soon licked his lips and looked at Kim Yeo-joo again. Perhaps it was at this moment that Jeon Jung-kook became interested in Kim Yeo-joo.

From that day on, Jeon Jungkook developed an interest? Something akin to an interest? Because of Kim Yeo-joo, Jeon Jungkook, who used to come to school once a week, once every two weeks, started coming every day. Even when he did come to school, he usually slept, but now he was awake during class. After a day or two of this, rumors spread among teachers and students that Jeon Jungkook had finally gone mad.

Of course, Kim Yeo-ju didn't care whether Jeon Jung-kook said that or not. As a third-year high school student in South Korea, all that mattered to her were grades, her school record, and her student record. She was convinced that they would never be entangled again, except for that one time when she borrowed a textbook from Jeon Jung-kook. That conviction was shattered within a matter of days.

“Okay, people who picked the same number should form groups and finish printing by next time.”

Kim Yeo-ju was picking a number and looking for her partner, while Jeon Jung-kook also picked a number and confirmed it. Amidst the commotion of the other kids searching for their partners, Kim Yeo-ju and Jeon Jung-kook locked eyes, and Kim Yeo-ju pointed to the note with her finger and mouthed the number.

“Number 7.”

Kim Yeo-ju's confidence was shattered along with the note with the number 7 written on it. Upon learning that she was in the same group as Jeon Jung-kook, Kim Yeo-ju sighed deeply and approached Jeon Jung-kook's desk. Jeon Jung-kook, having been interested in Kim Yeo-ju, must have been secretly delighted to be paired with her.

“Of all people, it’s you.”

“Why, you don’t like it?”

"Yeah, you can't speak English. The thought of having to write all this by myself is terrifying."

Kim Yeo-ju was still brash. Jeon Jung-kook chuckled again at Kim Yeo-ju's open dislike of being paired with him, saying it was horrible. Kim Yeo-ju sat down next to Jeon Jung-kook and began diligently filling out an English printout. Jeon Jung-kook rested his chin on the desk and stared intently at her.

Big eyes with double eyelids, a high nose, clean, white skin without makeup, and lips with a subtle tint. Kim Yeo-ju was a person with quite a good appearance. I stared at her for a while, and then, perhaps because of her thick hair or because she had tied it too tightly, her hair tie snapped and her long hair flowed down, brushing her cheek.

“Oh, what? I don’t have any more hair ties…”

Kim Yeo-ju frowned and repeatedly brushed back her flowing hair. She roughly tucked it behind her ear and returned to her English printouts, but Jeon Jung-kook couldn't. Jeon Jung-kook stared at Kim Yeo-ju, his eyes frozen solid, until he blinked a few times. And Jeon Jung-kook's mind was filled with the image of Kim Yeo-ju, her hair flowing down her spine.

“… crazy.”

“What are you mumbling about? Hurry up and copy what I have.”

Kim Yeo-ju, unaware of Jeon Jung-guk's condition, urged him to quickly transfer the information, but Jeon Jung-guk didn't move his body in that state. No, more precisely, he couldn't move. The scene from earlier kept coming back to him, and Kim Yeo-ju kept looking pretty. Jeon Jung-guk was going crazy. I don't know if you all know, but at that time, Jeon Jung-guk's ears were redder than a tomato.
