Special Investigation Team BTS 2

EP 05. Mysterious Terror (3)

I'm sharing this because I think it's necessary for the story. This is the Special Investigation Unit's code of conduct.

Returning home, completely exhausted, Yeoju nervously took off her coat and sat down at her computer. There were three computers in total. Not a single screen was off, and they all lit up brightly.

연여주

"So you're saying I should just listen to that self-deprecating nonsense? What the heck? Haa, I should've just not become a police officer. It's so tiring."

Despite her blunt words, the heroine pressed her eyelids together, pulled a USB drive and glasses from her back pocket, and placed them on the desk. She plugged the glasses into the jack, and the photos they captured transferred to the computer, and the screen lit up.

연여주

"I knew this would happen, so I quickly made a copy of the recorder. As expected, I'm not a good match for the police."

The heroine hummed a tune as she attached a Post-it note to a USB drive that read, "The Reality of Congressman Kim Hyun-woong." Opening the drawer under her desk, she found a stack of USB drives filled with similarly shaped ones, and the one she'd been holding slipped right into it.

The heroine rolled the chair's wheels and pulled out a couple of bandages from another drawer. The way she was wrapping her ankles with her legs up on the chair looked quite familiar.

I hadn't noticed it while I was still wearing shoes, but after I took off all my socks, my ankle was swollen horribly. There were some areas where the blood vessels had burst, discolored purple, and unlike my other foot, there weren't any visible bone bulges.

연여주

“…If it were like the old days, the old men would have said something really bad.”

Lost in memories, the heroine smiled sadly and slowly began wrapping the bandage around her ankle. Every movement made her swollen back ache, but there was nothing she could do.

Time heals bones. That's what the old man who practically lived in the infirmary always said.

The heroine put on her ankle brace and then turned around to sit down at the computer. It seemed the program, which allowed for viewing from various angles, was fully operational.

Tadadadadak–

As the female protagonist typed, a screen quickly displayed a series of languages. English, Japanese, Chinese, even Italian. Countless other languages filled the screen, yet the female protagonist showed no sign of difficulty.

연여주

“…Fuck. You hid it well.”

Finally, when I pressed Enter, the many words disappeared and a frontal view of a man removing the man's fingers from the railing appeared on the screen.

But all I can still see is a black mask and a black hat. They're so tightly covered that I can't even see my nose.

The heroine cursed and gave up looking at the man's face, scrolling down and staring intently at the hand visible through his clothes.

σαΐτα. It was written in small black letters, as if it was a tattoo. If I were to pronounce it… .

연여주

"...Saita? What is this? It's not even Chilseong Cider, it's something like this tattooed on... Ah. Greek. It's a snake, right?"

The heroine's eyes sparkled as she stared at the screen. Butterfly, lizard, snake. Psyche, Sabra, ... ... Saitah?

연여주

"Ugh. What kind of name did you give it?"

I knew they were related, but why the name? It was clearly a serious situation, but I couldn't help but laugh.

연여주

"You're making me laugh so hard. Isn't that right, Mr. Saita?"

The heroine smirked as she looked at the tattoo imprinted neatly on the printed page. "I started this to tease Sabra, so why not ruin it all now?" The corners of her mouth quirked up in a wicked grin.

김석진

"This is an order from Congressman Kim Hyun-woong to stop everything and catch the culprit."

박지민 image

박지민

"I knew it. Those high-ranking people always put their own work first, don't they?"

민윤기 image

민윤기

"Then, all other things, completely stopped?"

김석진 image

김석진

"Yeah. Instead of wasting time on other things, let's catch the culprit first. It was exhausting arguing for an hour. There was no way to overcome illogicality."

Seokjin shook his head in disbelief and gestured to Hoseok, saying they should start by talking about what they saw that day. He was puzzled that Hoseok, who had been on the third floor, hadn't caught the culprit.

정호석 image

정호석

"I heard that Yeon Yeo-ju was going down to the first floor, so I went to the bathroom for a bit. I turned off the walkie-talkie in the bathroom, but I didn't know something like that would happen in that time…."

전정국 image

전정국

"Didn't you say there was someone collapsed in the bathroom? They said it seemed like someone related to the situation. Did you confirm their identity?"

정호석 image

정호석

"Yeah. I asked other people, and it turned out he was the person involved. He said he went to the bathroom for a moment, and then someone suddenly hit him on the back of the neck and he fell down. He got up when I woke him up."

박지민 image

박지민

"Why did the person in charge knock him out?"

정호석 image

정호석

"I guess it's just my guess, but I think they tried to change their clothes. The uniform the person in charge was wearing is gone."

김남준 image

김남준

"So, did the criminal first come in plain clothes, then change into the official uniform and leave like that?"

연여주

"No. When he dropped the man, the culprit was wearing black clothes, a black mask, and a black hat. He must have changed before."

김태형 image

김태형

"...That's right. When I went up to the fourth floor, I found a uniform on the emergency stairs. I didn't drop the man while wearing the uniform."

김석진 image

김석진

"To sum up, the culprit first came in plain clothes, then changed into a uniform, then changed clothes again before dropping the man."

김석진 image

김석진

"Why did you have to do that? If you had come in wearing plain clothes, there would have been no reason to change into a uniform."

민윤기 image

민윤기

“…He must have been wearing a uniform and doing something. His real target wasn’t that man.”

It was complicated. Was it something important enough to warrant two changes of clothes? Even if it was, there wouldn't have been much time. Ten minutes at most. What could they have done in that short time? Everyone was lost in thought, speechless.

Meanwhile, the female protagonist, who knows that the culprit is connected to Sabra, sets her thoughts in a different direction.

If she wanted to use men, she could have done it somewhere where no one was watching, so why did she have to put on a show where the police were present?

Just as we guarded him for show, was the criminal also guarding him for show? If so, to whom? What? Why?

김석진 image

김석진

"Let's go for a while today. We won't touch anything, so we might find something."

전정국 image

전정국

"There's no CCTV there? Then we'll probably find it faster."

김석진 image

김석진

"That building was only built a month ago, so they haven't installed any CCTV yet. We'll have to find it ourselves."

박지민 image

박지민

“Haa… It’s all over the place.”

There's no CCTV... So am I the only one with a photo of the culprit's face? The female protagonist, who had been quietly listening to their story, thought of the photo she'd printed out the night before.

It certainly seemed like showing it to them would help the investigation, but... not yet. After observing a bit more, after gathering some evidence, I had to let it go without raising any suspicion.

After all, this isn't the evidence they wanted.

김석진 image

김석진

"I have to go meet the congressman again, so let's go investigate with Yeon Yeo-ju, Nam-joon, and Jung-kook. The rest of you can stay at the police station and do some research. That's all."

In front of them, we had to act like a special investigation team.
