Bloom Again

Flashback
I sat on a park bench gazing at the twilight sky, my thoughts drifting away to the outside world, wondering what it would be like. The streaks of purplish orange signaled the approach of night, and this rumbling still faithfully filled the empty recesses of my heart. It turns out making big decisions in life isn't as easy as the novels I read, everything will come and go so quickly.

As I decided to leave, I remembered that cold man again and felt reluctant to move forward. I fully understood that I was the only one with these feelings, but I still hoped that someday they would be reciprocated. Ah, I guess the award for most melancholic man will go to me this time.

"Oh, you haven't left yet?"
The voice interrupted my reverie. My lips went numb, dealing with this crazy woman was making things even more complicated. A small smirk appeared at the corner of her lips as she said those words.
“Not yet, why?” I got up from the bench and turned to look at him, putting on a brave front.
"It's okay, just asking. At least I can give you a little gift before I run away from here, pfft…" It looks like I'm going to get another bruise on my body, never mind, this is the last time I'll be a victim. I'll come back home when I'm ready to face it later.
"Here you are." His hand reached out and grabbed my hair, pulled it, and as usual... took me to the place he usually used to hang out with his naughty friend.

‘Knock, Knock, Knock’
"Just a moment !"
I hurriedly covered my bruised and scratched body with an oversized jumper and long sleep pants. I forced myself to get up from the mirror to open the door.
“Ready—” My sentence stopped, a little surprised to know the fact that this man was the one who had just knocked on my door.
"I want to talk for a minute," Chanyeol forced his way into my room and sat on the edge of the bed without my consent.

His facial expression was completely blank, and thankfully, I was used to his overly indifferent attitude. Honestly, I'd wanted to slit his throat for a long time. I crossed my arms in front of my chest from the doorway, waiting for him to bring up the subject.

“So you’re leaving?”
“Yes,” I answered his question simply, I wasn’t in the mood to talk.
He seemed to take a deep breath at my answer, his eyes scanning my body from top to bottom. Chanyeol stood up and approached me. Suddenly, his arms wrapped around my body tightly,
“W-why?” I was a little surprised by his sudden action. I don’t think I can leave him, but with all the pain he gave me…
"Sorry" My heart ached a little when I heard what he just said.
“Why are you apologizing? What did you do wrong?” Chanyeol let go of my embrace, leaving me alone in the doorway. I thought only girls liked to play riddles like this, what a rare, complicated guy.

* * *

One word to describe the current atmosphere. Silence. None of us started a conversation after the incident at the airport. Only the music from the car radio dominated. I was also reluctant to open the topic of conversation. I already knew he would definitely answer 'Yes, hm, or no'. Why bother finding a topic of conversation if in the end it won't be appreciated. Besides, Chanyeol is not someone who is very interesting to talk to, especially about topics that are not really important to him.

Chanyeol took me to a favorite eatery I used to frequent during my school days. Nothing had changed at all in this 4x6 meter shophouse, even though it was flanked by several multi-story buildings. I couldn't help but wonder why I shouldn't just sell the shophouse and become a landlord, or...

“Hey!” I gasped. Chanyeol knocked on the car window from outside, signaling me to get out. Ah! Why am I daydreaming so much today?

I quickly got out of the car and took a seat. I took a seat right next to the wall near the entrance, facing away from the parking lot and the road.

After we each ordered our food, silence reigned again. This time, I had no choice but to strike up a conversation, at least to get some interaction between us.
“How’s work?” Was it too presumptuous of me to ask him directly about work? After all, we used to be quite close, so there was no harm in asking, right?
"Nothing special, just the same old thing." Was that really the only answer? Was he not interested in asking about my work too? Geez, at least he'd answer a little longer.

Ah… I should have known it would turn out like this. I was like an HR person interviewing a potential employee who was nervous about talking to her. If that were the case, I would have preferred the interview to the conversation.

The food I ordered arrived. Instead of thinking about the next topic to talk to him about, I might as well just eat, right?

“Oh! Yeoli!” I turned my head and saw a woman in a black and white office suit approaching Chanyeol. She immediately sat down next to Chanyeol and casually leaned her head against him.
